Never To Old

Posted In: Coaching by Michael

We place judgements on ourselves all the time. We are too fat. We are too tall. We are not as cool. We are too old.

These judgements are based not on how we personal feel but what other’s place on us. What would you do with your life if you didn’t waste time thinking you were too old? Isn’t that just an excuse not to live life?

It was Homecoming week at the University I work for. They have a huge pep rally in which all the students are allowed to enter the reflecting pond located on campus. I have never been to any such event since my college was a small private liberal arts school, we didn’t have such HUGE events.

I decided I wanted to go. Not only go to see how it was but to get in the water. When I mentioned this to others I work with, I heard a lot of excuses why I shouldn’t do it or why THEY were not going to do it.

Well I went and I got in the water. I was excited to be there and it was a fun time. I showed my support and I can say I participated in part of the University traditions and now I am part of the history as well.

When returning to work, the same talk was all around about how wild it was, how silly it was, and how everyone thought they were too old to go. When I said, I went. The same thing would happen. Silence, shock and a look of regret on their face. They would all of sudden start asking questions about how it was.

The only thing I could say to each of them was. Your never too old to get in the water.
