I really believe life should be fun at all times. You can be professional at work and still have fun. There is nothing wrong with that. It is too bad that some company cultures do not support that.
My friend Becky and I use to work in a department that was so boring. Everyday we would come to our cubicles and pray not to sneeze because it would be too loud in the office. You could hear a pin drop in that place. A lot of time was spent looking busy and stressed because it was required, even though, Becky and I finished our assigned tasks in the first few hours of the day.
Becky and I would find ways to entertain ourselves. We would send each other funny emails with clip art to make a point. We would get many free refills of our Nature Table drinks. We would make nicknames for all the grumpy people we worked with and mimic the annoying daily habits and comments they made. We would go for lunch time walks just to get out, talk and laugh.
My favorite was the day we were in the break-room and I turned to find Becky placing liquid coffee creamer on a plate and putting it on the floor. I asked her what she was doing and she said, “I am feeding the kitten.” I know I died laughing and of course, we left the plate on the floor. I am sure some people even looked around for the poor lost kitten.
I know I would have never survived working there if it wasn’t for Becky and her sense of humor. She kept me laughing and helped me survive the office politics.
I encourage everyone to find ways to make work fun. You should enjoy what you do and have fun doing it. Life is too short to look busy, stressed and bored.

That poor break room kitty never stood a chance. You also forget to mention the roller skating rink, (aka the construction on the second floor) as well as the making of tiny hazard cones to go around the tiny hole in the floor in your cube. Last, but not least…the day I purchased a wedding gift for Tori Spelling and her first husband from William Sonoma. Citrus trumpets are fun for everyone!
