Taking the time to truly listen to someone is such a great gift. I know my day is full of hectic thoughts, plans and distractions. It is very easy for me to pretend to be listening when really I either thinking about something else or planning out what I am going to say when it is my turn.

Listening requires you to just be in the present, stop thinking of anything else except for what the person is saying verbally and nonverbally.

I challenge you this week to commit to take the time and truly listen to someone you may have been ignoring lately. Maybe a good friend who stories seem to run long. Maybe your mom, dad, grandmother or sister. Maybe a co-worker who just wants to share their life with you.

Give it a chance to show you care and to help you develop this important skill of listening. Being a great listener can make a real difference in your personal relationships, your career and your life.

Sometimes it is so easy to be selfish in conversation and just concentrate on what you are going to say next and consequently you can miss the true rewards of having a conversation. Enjoy your long weekend!

Yes… truly listening is a form of unconditional love. Not only are you giving it to the person you are listening to, but you’re also giving it to yourself. It’s a win-win situation. It really is the glue that keeps any relationship intact, along with a genuine interest in the other person. Thanks again Michael. You always bring up such important points/lessons.

You know they say that “it takes a great listener to know one”. And you are a great listener! And a great coach/friend too — Karen
