When ever I find myself loving gossip too much or enjoying other people’s drama, I know it is time to look at my own life. These are red flags to me that my life is lacking excitement.
Other red flags are not remembering what you did yesterday or on the weekend. Finding yourself feeling bored and tired. Or even seeing yourself jealous or envious of other people’s excitement.
It is time to check in with yourself and see what is going on.
- Maybe you are working too much
- Maybe you are not spending time with friends and/or loved ones.
- Maybe you are too busy
- Maybe you are overcommitted
- Maybe you forgot to take care of…YOU!
The first step to bringing excitement back is to take a sick day from life.
Yes a whole day. Let go of meetings, To Do Lists, Cell Phones, Texts, Calls, Obligations, Facebook, Twitter, TV, Chores, Work, etc. Let it all go and spend the day doing something for you.
Spend the day at the beach reading and enjoying the sun. Go to a theme park with friends. Have a spa day where you can relax and be healed.
It is your sick day from life to help you reconnect with you! After this time, I think you will see life differently. It is a mini-vacation to get yourself back into gear and taking care of who needs your attention most…YOU!
Now you can start finding more ways to make your life exciting as you move forward…

Wonderful idea, Michael..A sick day from life. Count me in.
Do I need to get someone to write an absence note for me? I am already thinking of funny and creative things to put in this absence note!!!

Sick day from life? Interesting idea.
Ideally, we should all be taking at least one day off every week, but it doesn’t seem to happen. The “sick day from life” is the next best thing…

I usually take an hour a day for myself. I turn off all electronics and lock myself in my room. During that one hour I think about what emotions I’ve been feeling/were feeling, and I ask myself why I feel that way. Another thing I ask myself is “am I still going the direction I want to go in life.”
I find it to be very therapeutic and sometimes I’ll ‘meditate’ for more than an hour.

Great suggestion. I know I have thought from time to time that just taking a day off of work could throw off my entire week and minimize my effectiveness because I would be playing catch up. I think I may have to incorporate your “day off” from life alternaview into my plan. Although it may appear you are not doing what you should because you are missing a day of work, in actuality you are increasing your effectiveness and productivity by finding those moments to recharge. As you suggested, it is so easy to get caught up in the commotion of life, but some time you really do need to take a “time out” and reconnect. Thanks for the reminder and the alternaview.
