I love horror movies. I love to go to the dark movie theater, cover my ears because the music is scaring me and wait to see what jumps out next to scare me.
Around this time of year they release Horrorfest - 8 Films to Die For. They show 8 films which are on limited release for a whole weekend. I get to spend the whole day just watching movie after movie.
I started to think, what is it about the horror movies I like so much. I do not like gore or torture. I do not like to watch people die. I do not really believe a lot of these stories could even really happen. But, I always find myself paying my 10 bucks to see another one.
It is an escape. I get to spend a hour and half caught up in a movie and release stress every time I get scared and jump. I am not thinking about work, my to do list, my fears, etc. I am sitting there totally engaged in the movie. When I leave, I feel free, relaxed and life doesn’t seem so bad because I do not have an escaped mental patient trying to kill me outside my broke down car in the snow.
Everyone needs a healthy escape from life. Maybe even a few. Something that just allows you to be caught up in something else. No stress, no worries, no to do lists. Just you and the activity which sets you free for a period of time.
What is your personal escape?
