As of last night, my Halloween Horror Night 2009 experience has now ended. After attending all but one night, Robert and I said good bye to the event for this year.
We had a great time. The houses were great! The shows were wonderful and the scare zones were….blah. Now the fried oreos…
Here are my photos and story recap of the Halloween Horror Nights 2009
I wanted to give you a walk through the experience and recap the highlights from this year’s event. I think the most important part to mention is the parking. You see, you park in a huge parking garage to then walk to the theme park entrance. I think a lot of people who visit Orlando are never prepared for the walk. Here is how you arrive after you park…
First you have to leave your car and remember where it is so you can come back to it at the end of the evening

Then you walk from the car to the sidewalk

Then you start your journey towards the park entrance through City Walk

Then you keep walking

Keep walking… (wave to Robert on the side)

Then you make it to the hub will they offer food because you are tired on your journey…

Then you keep walking…

And walking…

Welcome to City Walk!!

Oh…keep walking…

And walking…

You made it!!

The theme this year was Ripped from the Sliver Screen. The houses were all themed on major movie characters except for a few.
Out of all the houses Robert and I thought Wolfman was the best. It has the most amazing theme and the details inside. You walked in and was in a forest with trees and sounds of the wolfman moving through the woods. Totally freaked me out! It also had a lot of new effects including a moment when the wolfman flies in and howls at the moon. Very nice house.
Because of the popular themes in the houses wait times would be in the 90 minutes to 120 minutes range for some of them.

The scare zones this year were a little random.

There was one in the beginning that was supposed to be a containment zone. It was filled with actors in costume who seemed to not care about being there. We didn’t seem to care too much walking through either. There was also a guy screaming the same 4 lines on a loud speaker as you walked in. It was not fun and that guy should never be given a loud speaker again.

There was also a front zone where the men with chainsaws were. (Chainsaw guys at HHN is a staple) This year as I walking through that area to meet Robert, one of the guys came up to scare me and when he went to turn on his chainsaw (they are fake of course) he hit my leg with it. “So sorry man!” Yes sorry you almost shoved a chainsaw up my ass!
Cirque Du Freak was a zone created to promote the movie. It was basically actors in costume from roles in the movie (that no one had seen yet) and would just stand around. There was one vampire guy who was always whispering in my ear and breathing on me when I walked by.

Here is Robert with the Nose guy

There were other scare zones like the shirtless cannibals and a new one they added in an alley the last week which was cool simply because it was in an alley.
They also had one based on a war zone where the actors pointed guns at you and shot at you. I did not find the humor or fear in this area and felt it was a bit much for a theme park. I do not think anyone wants to be shot at.
So the houses were great! The scare zones could be better BUT the food is never a problem for Robert and I. We enjoyed frozen lemonades, snow cones, thousands of bottles of water and our favorite foamy pizza at the cafe.

And of course fried oreos!

Here is my little dance I did after I enjoyed one of the many desserts we had through our time at HHN

People watching is another highlight of the event. You get to see people you know, people you wish you didn’t know and people who just amaze you by their behaviors or conversations you overhear.
While Robert was in the restroom, a creepy guy (not someone who worked there) walked up to me and said, “I wished I had a quarter so I could bounce it off your hot ass.” I responded with, “I wish I had a tazer gun.”
We also enjoyed a woman who worked at the Whack a Mole game. Every time we got off the ride Jaws, she would be using her microphone to annouce her game. For some reason, instead of saying Whack a Mole she would always say Whack a Mo as Robert and I were around. Robert thought for sure one time we were going to be attacked by people with black foam mallets trying to win a stuffed Shrek.

Now you know what my favorite part is…

Even though my Rocky Horror Picture Lover wasn’t in the show this year, we still enjoyed the pelvic thrusts, sang, laughed, danced and screamed, “Fuck the back row!” at least 13 times!

I love the show, I love the music and I love the fact I get to sit down during the show.

So we say good bye to another year. Robert and I are lucky for the great memories, great food, great laughs, new friends and the fact we get to do it all over again next year!
