Vacation

Taking time out to vacation is something I think is very important for your life. I have been thinking back on the last time I took a real vacation and it has been over 5 years. Can you believe I have not taken a vacation in over 5 years? I realize I tell people all the time about the importance of work/life balance and here I am not taking the time to plan my own personal vacation.

My friend Nick plans a trip from NYC to Orlando at least once a year and sometimes more. He gets away from his home/work and spends time doing something he loves most, Disney. Yes I always get to join in the fun with him but it is not my vacation. So I need to plan a vacation. There is no choice but to sit down and really think about where I would like to go and make the plans to make it happen. I need a break.

I am not a huge fan of traveling so I am thinking of something that will be a simple and nice trip. I always say I will take weekend trips but they never happen so, I am going to plan one week away from it all and just relax. I am thinking somewhere on a beach where I can enjoy the ocean breeze and the warm sun. I want to enjoy great food and do nothing. Now I just have to select where…

Stress Away

Stress can help us get motivated and make things happen. Being under pressure can help us to achieve extraordinary results but too much stress can cause negative results to our work, lives and health. It is all about learning how to manage our stress that determines our success. Here are ten ways I manage my stress:

  1. I play with stress toys during my day. It is fun to just throw, squeeze and juggle something to let go of some of the daily stress.
  2. I play Internet games. Sometimes I will take a break during the day just to play a quick game on yahoo to relax, have fun and clear my mind.
  3. I talk about it. My mom is a great listener and will take the time to let me vent and bounce ideas off of her.
  4. I get a massage. I really believe in the benefits for regular massage and highly recommend getting a massage once a month.
  5. I mediate and do yoga. Sometimes taking the time to quiet your mind and relax reconnects you with who you are. Plus when do we really get to take time and truly reflect?
  6. I go to a scary movie. I can just escape and get lost in a scary movie. Of course it is a great release of tension to be scared and scream! :)
  7. I go to the beach. I love the beach and it always relaxes me to enjoy the sun, sand and surf. I love the smells of the beach and the calming sounds of the waves. It is nice to just lay in the sun and let it all go.
  8. I pick up a hobby. I randomly always try to find new hobbies to do for fun just to let go of the day. I try to make them fun and silly but pushes me out of my comfort zone. My next hobby is learning to juggle. Just make sure you stand back…
  9. I laugh. I love to laugh and it is  great way to let go of stress. All I have to do is watch a favorite movie or have lunch with a friend and I will be laughing at some point.
  10. I talk to my coach. Yes, I am a coach and I believe in coaching so I have my own coach. Every week my coach holds me accountable and makes sure I am taking care of myself. This helps me to keep my stress in check.

What are some things you do to let go of stress?
