5 Ways to Add Excitement to Your Life

“I am bored”

I think that is one of the worse feelings in the world. When you are bored, life is not fun. You just are wasting time doing nothing and suffering through the day. You know what it is like to be bored at work or home. The time and day just drags…

I hate being bored. I notice I catch myself in that funk and I need to do something about it to make a change. Who else is going to entertain me? If I wait for that, I might be bored for a VERY long time.

Here are 5 ways to add excitement to your life:

1. Go to the past - Who says you have to reinvent the wheel? Excitement is not always doing something new, sometimes it is by recreating something you did before.

I was in the shower the other day and start thinking of a funny situation that happened in my past. It had me laughing for a good 10 minutes. I realized that I could create the same event or situation again to have another good time. Sure it wouldn’t be the same, but who cares. It is the fact that I now have a idea and plan to do something I know I love.

2. Do something new – I said before you do not have to do something new BUT doing something new is also a great way to add some excitement. It doesn’t have to be something amazing! It just has to be something you haven’t done before.

I had never been to Laughter Yoga and thought, why not? I had a great time, a great experience and went back a second time. It was something new. It created something fun to try. I do not limit myself to things I want to do, I ask friends all the time for new adventures and join them. What do I have to lose? I can at least say I did it! :)

3. Observe Life – You do not always have to do something to add excitement to life. Sometimes it is the connection we have with life that makes it exciting. When it is your friend’s birthday, you have just as much fun as they do even though it is not your special day.

Go somewhere where you can watch people. Maybe a bookstore, a park, food shopping, etc. Somewhere you can just be and be mindful of what is going on around you.

I love going to theme parks but I do not ride most of the rides. I love going because I can watch all the people. I meet so many different people. I watch couples flirting, kids laughing, brothers fighting and people laughing. It is just nice to be around others and, of course, this can spark your own ideas.

4. Ask yourself, what is missing? – When bored, there might be something missing from life. Instead you try to fill it with busy activity instead of figure out what is it. Some self reflection can help you out a lot into why you are bored and want you are currently missing.

I find myself bored and realize it is laughter that is missing. I have spent too much time worrying, feeling sad or being busy and did not take the time to laugh or be silly. This self awareness can allow me to do something about adding laughter to my life. There are thousands of things that can be missing in your life and, with a little self reflection, you could make a change.

5. Do nothing – So you are bored, do nothing! Yes just do nothing but make it your plan to do nothing. Not shop online. Not watch TV. Not stare at the wall. I want a planned do nothing.

I am always on the go that I can forget to take time for me. When I do get that time, I feel bored because I am not go go go! Doesn’t mean I need more activities, just means I might need to give myself permission to do nothing. So I will make the plan to take a nice bath, then a nap and then read a book. A simple plan to allow me to center myself and relax.

3 Perspective Shifts

The universe sent this to me:

I do believe, Michael, that if people would just start by saying “it’s fun,” when it seems hard; “I’m happy,” when they seem sad; and “I know,” when it seems as if they don’t, they’d finally discover that it really is, they really are, and they always have.

Works for me,
The Universe

Isn’t this a better way to start your day, or face a challenge?

Knowing Too Much

I love the fact we receive information faster than ever before.

We are able to keep track of friends and family and learn more about them than before. We receive news updates almost as they happen. We also can find out information on any topic and from 5 to 5000 sources all on our phones.

I wonder if it is too much information for our own good.

My cat has bladder stones and is having surgery today. I am able to look up the procedure, treatment, what can go wrong, people’s experiences, what I did wrong, what Piper did wrong, what her genes did wrong and all the possible outcomes that could happen.

I do this with my own health and now with Piper’s and all it does it FREAK ME OUT!

Maybe there is a time when you have to let go of knowing everything and just believe in the professionals to do their jobs. Believe that everything will work out. And believe that your love will be enough to help her through the recover.

I know my life would be less stressed. Will I stop? I do not know. I do not like not knowing but the knowing is killing me!
