Who Do You Want To Be?

I was working on my guided creativity journal and wanted to share another fun activity. The entry was about who is someone you would want to be and why?

 I chose Clinton Kelly:

He is currently the host of “What Not To Wear” on TLC with Stacey London. The show takes him and Stacey to help a person make positive changes in choosing clothes for their body style, personality, and career. They help the person see who they are now and help them plan on who they want to be. They give them the task of going forward and buying new clothes based on their advice.

Why would I want to be him? Well I find what he does is similar to what I do. Even though he helps others with his great fashion sense while I help others live life out loud, it is all about making a difference in people’s lives. We both use the same type process as well. We show them their current state, find out where they want to be and empower them the tools to make it happen and then allow the process to work and celebrate with their successes.

Personally, I think he is very well put together and comes off quite charming with his clients. I love his confidence as well as his great sense of humor. He doesn’t take himself too seriously and has a fun time doing what he loves.

So I would want to be Clinton Kelly and have my own show and possess some of his great qualities. How about you? Who would you want to be and why?

Sometimes You Need To Rest

I have been fighting a cold for awhile now. It started out and I insisted I would be fine and kept pushing myself through it. Going through the holidays only added to the push and kept me going to finally the cold woke me up with full on congestion which made me think my head was going to explode from the pressure.

But instead of giving into the cold I kept pushing forward and being “tough”. I was going to be just fine…WRONG!

No matter how much I pushed myself, I wasn’t listening to my instincts which told me to rest. I didn’t want to have to stop what I was doing to take the time to rest. This would slow me down instead of allowing me to keep going. Then my cold let me know I had no choice but to rest.

In life, we come to points where we need to rest, stop or even take a step back. These times are not about stopping progress but allowing us to really take the time needed to move forward. These moments allow us to step back and see what is going with a different perspective and even with some self reflection. The needed rest allows us to gain the strength we need to continue on.

So after spending the day in bed watching my new season of Will and Grace on DVD and drinking hot tea, I am starting to feel like myself again. :)

Santa Was Good To Me

This year I must have been on Santa’s good list. :) I finally have made the jump and I know am a MAC user!! I got a Macbook! I know I have been talking about this for years now but I finally did it!

But not only did I get the Macbook but also an iPhone. I am going MAC in a big way. They love me in the store because already they know I am addicted. :) I have been taking my time to load my contacts into my Macbook before I activate my phone. My friend Nick is pushing me to just turn it on and start playing with it. He knows I tend to get new toys and take awhile to start playing with them. :)

I signed up for Macbook classes with my friend Stephanie. We thought it would be fun to go to the store and learn more about our new toys. We also know we need cool bags to carry into the laptops into the store with. :) I found a Cirque bag I think I am going to go with. We also plan to drink Starbucks so we can be the complete MAC user profile during the class.

For the holidays I was also lucky to spend it with my family. We had a small lunch that my mom prepared for us. I missed the HUGE family dinner on Sunday do to being sick but was able to make it on the holiday. It was great but mom and I have already made plans to do brunch next year at the Gaylord Palms so no one would have to cook. :)

So the holiday season has come and gone and I hope all of you had a great time and I know we will all make the next one even better!!

Dear Santa

When I was a kid I really believed in Santa. Other kids tried to tell me over and over he was not real but I knew that just could not be.Every Christmas morning was so magical while I grew up. My parents did a wonderful job of making each holiday so special. I would also go to bed right after our huge Christmas Eve party and just try to fall asleep so the morning would come. Of course, I spent most of the night staring at the ceiling because I was too excited to see what Santa would bring me in the morning.

Usually, I would get the courage to take a risk that the monster under my bed would not get me as I ran to the living room to see if there was anything by the fireplace. I would also be surprised to see tons of gifts waiting for me to open. I would then run and jump back into bed (so the most couldn’t get me on the back either) and try again to fall asleep so the morning would come. I think I would just pass out from exhaustion and morning would finally arrive and I couldn’t wait any longer.

I would open my presents and find that every wish I had made that year had arrived. I knew it had to be Santa who brought it because my parents would never spoil me that much because they knew I really belonged on the naughty list.

It really can not remember all the gifts I got. I do remember some of the items but that doesn’t count for the years and years of tons and tons of gifts. What I do remember is the magic that took place each year. As I grew older, the magic faded each year. I do not even decorate my house now because Santa doesn’t seem to come anymore even though I wake each morning, hoping he may prove me wrong.

I realized this year how powerful it is to believe in something. When you truly believe in something, no one or thing can stop you from believing in it. That magic came from no allowing anyone’s opinions or view affect what I believed in. It was magic that was created because I trusted in a belief that I held close to my heart and valued each year.

Can you imagine if I just believed in myself so strongly? Well the opportunities and possibilities would be endless. It may take time to build it up, but with work I can make it happen.

I also decided that it is time I believe in Santa again. Why should I give up something that brought me such happiness each year? Besides, if I start believing in Santa again, it will only help remind me to work on believing even more in myself.

PS. I Love You – THE MOVIE!

I mentioned how much I loved the book earlier this month. I went this weekend to see the movie with my mom. I knew she would love it and it would be a great day together.

The movie was great!! I am a fan of almost everyone in the movie so I figured it would not disappoint me and I was correct. You will laugh and you will cry. It is great!

This is a great movie to see about moving your life forward. Sometimes when you get stuck or lost in life, you just stand still. This movie will inspire you to find ways to move forward and live your life!

 GO SEE IT!

There Will Always Be A Macworld Coming Up…

Everyone knows that I have been obsessed with getting a MAC. It was my friend Nich in grad school who first turned me on to them. Every since then I have been tempted by the Apple and just wanting to take a bite…There were always reasons why I didn’t do it. One of the main ones was the fear that when I get it, a cooler version would come out the next day. How would I live with myself after I purchased a MAC and the next week a better one came out?

I was talking to a friend today about how it is time for me to take the jump and get a MAC. He said, “No wait until after January because there are rumors that revamped ones are being released in at Macworld.”

Normally, a statement like this would have me frozen in fear and self doubt would kick in and tell me I have to wait but, for some reason it didn’t. Instead I responded to him quickly and said, “There will always be a Macworld coming up. I tired of waiting and I am going for it. If the new one is so much better, then I will buy it when I see it, not while I hear rumors of what it could be.”

I was shocked to hear those words come out of my mouth but I knew this came from making my mind up. I was no longer spending my time dwelling on all the “what ifs”. I knew I wanted it and I was willing to take the risk and get myself something I have been waiting for. No one was going to be able to sway me anymore. I was committed.

You have to truly commit to something, before you can make it happen. You can’t have one foot in and one foot out. You have to let go and commit. When you do, the opportunities will be endless.

Quote

Yesterday writing about dancing got me thinking about this quote I love:

“Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here

we might as well dance.”

Things are going to happen to us in our lives we are not going to be happy about. Life does happen and we are going to lose love ones, we are going to miss opportunities and we are going have some raining days BUT, we have a choice on how we deal with them.

We can chose to spend our time in fear of these events. We can hide ourselves away in bed with a packet of Double Stuf Oreos and watch reruns of America’s Next Top Model. We can chose to allow the ourselves to be taken over by the negative feelings and just dwell on how life is not what we expected.

OR we can chose to dance. We can chose to we have to take the good with the bad and the GOOD always out weighs the bad. We can chose to smile and celebrate life instead of live in fear of it. We can chose to realize that we control ourselves. We may not be able to control other people or all situations outside of ourselves BUT we can control what we do about them, how we handle them, and what we learn from them.

Everybody Cut Footloose

Yesterday I was talking with a friend who mentioned how he missed dancing. He remembered the days when we would spend our time at the club dancing the night away. It was always a good time but those clubs are no closed and we have lives that keep us from being able to spend the night dancing.

I told him that I happened to have been dancing just recently. I went downtown with a group of friends we had a blast. We ended up in a small bar called Room 39 where they play 80’s music all night long. It is a small place so it never gets too busy but just enough people to have a good time.

I heard the music start and my friend Becky jumped out of her seat and pulled up to make sure we didn’t miss our chance to our best Kevin Bacon to the song “Footloose”. We danced. Of course right after that song, they played Becky’s request for “Take on Me” and we had to show our moves to support the requested song.

Dancing always makes me feel good. I think it releases a lot of the stress we have built up inside of us and allows us, for those moments, let go of everything and just have a good time. I love to dance.

My friend mentioned that he plans to go out dancing this weekend. I hope he does.
