A lot of time I catch myself saying the same things to myself over and over again. You know what I am talking about?
There are tons of things we tell ourselves which do not need to be said:
- Because they are not true
- Because they are negative or hurtful
- Because they keep us trapped in our current state
- Because it feeds our fears, self doubts or insecurities
- Because I SAID SO!
What we tell ourselves could be fall in one of these areas or many, but they all have in common the fact that they are not good for us and do not help us move forward or have a positive perspective.
I am quite a positive person in life but I catch myself slipping in these phrases, to myself, every so often. So I am writing them down and committing to removing them from my group of habits.
You might relate to these and might want to consider stop saying them as well.
10 Things to Stop Saying:
- You are too old for that
- What would will people think or say?
- No one would like that
- I can’t do that
- I will do that someday
- I wish I was in better shape
- People do not take me seriously
- I am not worth it
- He/She/They are talking (negatively) about me
- I am in trouble/ or it is bad news
Now I am sure there are a few more I can add but these are what come to mind in the last week. What do you think would happen if I stopped saying these things? I guess I won’t know until I start…
What are you going to stop saying to yourself?

I would like to get myself, and others for that matter, to stop saying, “I SHOULD do x, y, or z.” Just do it (as Nike says) or don’t. Worrying about whether something should or should not be done wastes the very energy needed to do the thing you should be doing in the first place, thus defeating you before you’ve started. I think the determining factor is fear. Fix the unnecessary fear and you fix the ‘should but won’t’ syndrome.
